Winter Storms Lead to Cancellations and Blood Shortages in Indiana Region. Severe winter storms have led to significant disruptions for blood collection efforts in the Indiana Region and beyond, causing the cancellation of over 500 blood drives nationally since January 1. Locally, 33 drives were called off and at least 829 donations were lost, intensifying the ongoing national blood shortage. Transportation of blood supplies to hospitals has also been hampered by adverse weather, further straining local healthcare services.
