Arrests Made After Suspected Police Impersonator Incidents in Lafayette. A 23-year-old man from Elkhart was arrested twice this week in the Lafayette area on suspicion of impersonating a police officer. The individual first drew police attention at Purdue University, where he allegedly claimed to be with a homicide unit. Later, he was accused of stopping a motorist and presenting false credentials, including using a vehicle with flashing lights. Elkhart Resident Accused of Impersonating Police Officer at Purdue University. A 23-year-old man from Elkhart allegedly entered Hawkins Hall on Purdue University’s campus on Tuesday night, claiming to be a police officer and stating he was searching for an individual. Staff members, wary of the situation, notified university police, who determined the man was not an officer and arrested him for impersonating a public servant.
