New York State Begins Extensive Pothole Repairs Following Harsh Winter. New York State is responding to significant winter road damage with a large-scale pothole repair and resurfacing initiative. Over 200 Department of Transportation crews are set to fill approximately 175,000 potholes this month, deploying more than 8,000 tons of asphalt in April. The project is part of the launch of paving season and includes more than 180 resurfacing efforts aimed at improving over 2,000 lane miles.
