First Babies of 2026 Welcomed at Greater Lafayette Hospitals. The first babies born in Greater Lafayette in 2026 arrived at two area hospitals shortly after midnight on New Year's Day. A son, River Joseph, was delivered at Franciscan Health Lafayette East to parents from Crawfordsville, while a daughter, Willow June, was born a few hours later at IU Health Arnett Hospital to a West Lafayette couple. Hospital representatives provided birth times and measurements for both infants. These arrivals mark the first births celebrated in Lafayette for 2026. West Lafayette Wendy's Closes as Part of National Restructuring Effort. The Wendy's restaurant at 252 E. State St. in West Lafayette closed just before the new year, following corporate plans to shutter nearly 300 underperforming sites nationwide by the end of 2025. The closure left a noticeable imprint of the removed signage on the building facade. This location was operated by Lafayette-based Frosty Management Corp., which manages several stores in the area.
