Parents of Parkland Victim Oppose Florida Bill to Lower Gun Purchase Age. Manuel and Patricia Oliver, whose son was killed in the 2018 Parkland school shooting, have continued their nationwide advocacy against gun violence. On Wednesday, they brought their message back to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, protesting a proposed Florida bill that would reduce the minimum age for purchasing rifles and other long guns from 21 to 18. The proposal, known as HB 133, is scheduled for consideration in the Florida House of Representatives. The law currently in place was enacted after the Parkland tragedy.
