James Gordon McCulloh, Renowned Architect and Rye Native, Dies at 91: James Gordon McCulloh, a former Rye resident and accomplished architect, passed away on January 13, 2026, at his home in Princeton, New Jersey, at the age of 91. Born in New York City in 1934, McCulloh grew up in Rye and later attended Princeton University. He served in the U.S. Navy, including coaching the sailing team in Annapolis, and worked for notable architectural firms such as IM Pei. Sam Shallow, Adventurer and Longtime Vermont Resident, Dies at 75: Sam Shallow, a Woodstock and Hartland resident who embraced adventure throughout his life, died on October 11 at age 75. Raised in New Jersey and Connecticut, Shallow was an avid sailor, skier, and surfer, traveling widely and spending 13 years in Ireland. He later settled in Vermont, where he started a family and was known for his passion for outdoor activities. Shallow spent his later years dividing time between Key West, Florida, and New England.
