Candlelight Vigil Planned in Mundelein for Boy Killed in House Fire: A candlelight vigil will be held Wednesday evening in Mundelein to honor Christopher Alfaro-Rodriguez, a 4-year-old boy who died during a house fire on Dalton Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the blaze early Monday, where the home was extensively damaged and the child was found deceased in the basement. According to the Lake County Coroner, his death was caused by smoke inhalation. The community continues to grieve as authorities investigate the incident. Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit by SUV While Crossing Route 12 in Lake Zurich: A 59-year-old Lake Zurich man died early Saturday morning after being struck by an SUV while crossing Route 12 at the intersection with Deerpath Road. Emergency crews responded around 12:40 a.m., attempting lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved was a 2018 Lexus SUV driven by a 49-year-old Palatine resident. Authorities temporarily shut down part of Route 12 during the investigation. Pedestrian Killed by SUV in Lake Zurich Identified as Local Company Executive: A 59-year-old Lake Zurich resident, Casimir Ries, was identified as the man struck and killed by an SUV at the intersection of Route 12 and Deerpath Road early Saturday morning. Authorities reported that the incident resulted in partial road closures while police and fire officials responded to the scene. An autopsy confirmed that Ries died from blunt force injuries related to the crash. He was known to serve as vice president at a transportation company in the area. The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 5:47 p.m. Sunday to the 22600 block of North Cherry Hill Road in North Barrington for a report of a wildland fire. Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Chief David Pilgard said firefighters were responding when they received multiple reports of a large smoke header in the area. The incident was upgraded to bring additional Lake Zurich Fire Department resources to the scene. The incident was upgraded again through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to the second alarm level for wildland resources. Firefighters extinguished the pool house roof fire and worked to protect the homes from the fire embers. Lots of deadfall trees and some dead standing trees also caught on fire. The fire chief said it took extensive work to knock down, cut down and cut up logs and trees that were on fire. “Great work by the Lake and McHenry County Wildland Team that showed up for all the hard work they put in here for a couple hours to help the fire crews extinguish the fire,” Pilgard said. No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department. Wauconda House Fire Displaces Residents and Causes Major Damage: A fire on Highland Avenue in Wauconda resulted in approximately $250,000 in damage to a single-story home and left its residents without housing.
