Lake County Man Receives Life Sentence for Deerfield Sexual Assault: A 44-year-old Lake County man, Chris Butler, has been sentenced to mandatory life in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting an acquaintance in a Deerfield hotel. Butler, who previously had a 2007 sex offense conviction in Cook County, was captured in Champaign following the incident. Officials stated that his prior conviction required a life sentence despite the current charges being Class 1 felonies. The verdict was issued following a bench trial in April 2024.
